I'm not sure you understand.

I'm not sure you understand how excruciatingly lonely someone can be.

How lonely do you think you'd be if you grew up hearing every day that your opinion didn't matter? That no one would be attracted to you because you're too chubby? How embarrassing your own mother thought you were? How your accomplishments were pathetic compared to hers? Hearing about all of the things that were so incredibly wrong with you. Hearing how much of a disappointment you turned out to be.

How lonely do you think you'd be if the only people available to make friends with cared exclusively about the one thing you couldn't do no matter how hard you tried? If everything you ever cared about was considered evil and got taken from you the moment you found it? What if you knew that the moment you were finally free to be a person, everyone you ever loved would abandon you for it? That they would decide they never wanted to see or speak to you again? Every single one. What if you realized you were alone before that even happens? What if you realized all the love you've ever experienced in life was fake?

How lonely do you think you'd be if you grew up so different from everyone else around you that you didn't even feel human? What if you were made to believe that you didn't deserve to exist? What if you were told you were going to die a horrific death for being everything you were inside?

How lonely would you be if you spent every night terrified and trying desperately to cover up your sobbing because you can't tell anyone about any of it?

What would you do?

What would you do to have a friend? What would you do to have anyone? How desperate do you think you'd be? How would you even accomplish that if you weren't allowed to talk to anyone else outside of your family and their friends? Where could you possibly find someone else to connect with someone as awkward, strange, angry, and sad as you? Someone who could know about all of the things inside of you and still love you.

I made someone.

I gave him my passion, my strength, my courage, my confidence, my sense of adventure, my stubbornness, my sense of loyalty, my sense of humor. I gave him my love of dinosaurs, my love of cars, my love of horror movies, my love of 80's music. I had his entire life figured out. I named him. I thought of him whenever I was lonely, which was always. He was the only way I could safely love and be loved by in return. He never went away. Why would he? He's my best friend.

What good would memory barriers have done? How useful would it be if we didn't even get along? What purpose would there be if it caused me any distress to have Alex?

True loneliness can be traumatizing.

Non-disordered plurality can exist.

Hello! I'm sorry to barge into your inbox but um we're a fairly newly discovered system (realised that the voices in our head aren't just intrusive thoughts to dismiss when they reacted to me ignoring them and suppressing them by just taking complete control of the body for a week and something) and uh I don't have any recollection of us ever splitting, like as far as we all know it all probably happened when we were a very small kid (well with the exception of one who seems to be a version of us but forever about 14 years old, so I assume they formed when we were 14). But um we aren't sure if we aren't splitting another Part (we prefer to call ourselves Parts rather than alters), this time a fictive.

Like it would make sense I guess because lately we've been under a lot of stress and the situation in question isn't anything any Part is equipped for nor can we run from it, but we've never split a fictive before and, again, none of us, afaik, even remember splitting in general. On the other hand I am unsure how to tell? Like I was near certain that we were splitting (horrible headaches lately, feeling super out-of-body, feeling dizzy and disoriented, feeling like it's hard to pilot the body, feeling kinda "who the hell am I again? Yeah I know my legal name but IS that me?" etc), but now I'm not so sure because the new voice that I and another Part, who tends to co-front with me, thought to be a possible new Part splitting and that we (ok this was an unwise move) tried to ignore, doesn't seem to be confused? And as far as I know new members of a system are supposed to be confused and disoriented and possibly distressed when first appearing?

So uh basically I'd like to ask for... anything? Like uh, opinions, advice, anything? I'm sorry for barging in here again but we don't really know who else to ask

Hey, don't worry, you're not barging in! I'm really not sure if I'm the best person to ask but I'll give you what advice I can and hope other systems chip in too.

I absolutely get why you're a bit nervous! Most of us are each time, even though we're mostly used to it now. The main reason it's scary is because it's different each time. There's not really a "supposed to" when it comes to new Parts. For example, with us Eilonwy was *very* confused when first formed. As in didn't even know what modern technology was or where she was. In contrast, our newest fictive Brighid Aoife seems to mostly be aware of what's going on and has rarely been confused since forming. It's different every time.

You're right that it probably wasn't the best idea to have ignored your potential new Part, but you live and learn from mistakes. The thing I think is important now (obviously take this with a huge grain of salt - there's every chance I'm way off here) is to try and make sure your new Part feels happy, comfortable, and safe in their new situation. Let them know you're there to answer any questions or to give them a listening ear, but also allow them to have space if they want it.

It sounds cheesy af, but we've found that letting go and trying to trust in the process is the best way to respond to these situations.
